Some people claim that the Internet is for pornography. Other people claim that the Internet is for communication. They're both right: the Internet is for communicating pornography.

I've taken it upon myself to visit a number of websites on which individuals share pornography. I've spent a great deal of time perusing these sites, obtaining a wide variety of pornographic content. In this article, I'll review and compare some of the sites I've visited.

Note: all links in this article should be considered as not safe for work, though some are safe for work.

All but two of the sites I'll be discussing are imageboards. Imageboards are near-live conversations between many users, some providing content and others commentary. Many ancillary websites, such as rapidshare and megaupload, provide hosting for larger collections of content, which are linked from the imageboards.

The mother of all imageboards, 4chan's "Sexy Beautiful Women" board is a rapidly-changing mass of pornographic media. Though only five pages deep, the number of images and other media linked at any given time is impressive. If you see something you like, grab it quickly. Odds are that thread will be gone within 10 minutes.

Like all imageboard sites, the content comes from the users. That's not to say they're creating the pornography themselves, merely sharing pornography they've acquired from other sources. The content persists only so long as new content does not push it off the board. This process democratizes the popularity of pornography, similar to how digg users promote articles.

7chan hosts a variety of pornographic imageboards and has recently taken over for the inadequately hosted fapchan. While functionally very similar to 4chan, 7chan allows users to find and share pornography more specific to their tastes by providing fifteen individual boards.

While 7chan also sports a "Sexy Beautiful Women" board, they also provide a companion board for "Sexy Beautiful Men", as well as a variety of fetishes, comic styles, and even an erotic literature board.

What's the password? Hell if I know!

While 7chan provides a better categorization mechanism for pornography, anonib takes this one step further. The boards making up the site are also user-created and administered, thus fully democratizing the entire experience.

The pornographic boards are one NSFW click away from the main page. They're ordered with the most recently updated boards listed near the top. Even the boards themselves have sub-boards, which don't get as much traffic as the main boards. The variety of content is enormous. Rule 34 is alive and well over here.

This is the adult-themed answer to YouTube. Users upload videos, which other users watch, rate, and discuss. While most of the content doesn't seem to be user-generated, it's still a step towards bringing makers and consumers of porn closer together in a larger community of porn-interested people.

While not explicitly a porn site, Stickam is a great place to see those "real live girls" you see advertised in so many banner ads but never manage to find even after clicking. It's a video-chatting site for anyone with a webcam. Find a girl with low self-confidence or something to prove and you'll get all manner of naked in no time flat. It's not uncommon for users of the aforementioned imageboards to raid stickam and post the results of their exploits for all to see.

Final Thoughts

I hope you found this article informative. If there are any other social pornography sites you feel should be included, post them in the comments and I'll add them after I've done some more research.

I particularly love the van blowing up, apropos of nothing, when "domestic terrorism" is mentioned by an unidentified commentator who isn't even referred to again. Especially the superimposed text: "Demonstration".

The dipshit featured in that "news" segment (being protected by his dog and curtains) is Alex Wuori. Stupidly the whole thing is the result of him being owned in a 420chan thread and taking it WAY too seriously. He's refused to let it drop, now believing himself to be a lone crusader in some sort of e-war against chans in general, and is entirely responsible for bringing the current situation upon himself.

I'm conflicted over ED. (3.00 / 2) (#37)
by Kasreyn on Wed Aug 29, 2007 at 08:24:07 PM EST

I kinda regret following that link. That's four hours of my life surfing ED that I'll never get back. That happens every time I get sucked into its event horizon. And yet, a certain vapid amusement arose, I must admit. Self-important children bragging about themselves on their userpages aside, ED can usually be relied upon for a few fun images and videos. And their original protest intent in raiding Habbo I see as quite admirable, though it's long since jumped the shark.

I agree that Wuori is a dipshit, if for no other reason then at least because he thought he could recuit an army for free off teh internets. Anyone who's been online more than six months knows that the defining characteristic of being cool online is showing how little anything affects you. He couldn't have taped a bigger "KICK ME" sign to his ass if he'd tried.

At the same time, however, there's something sad about seeing modern equivalents of the old Usenet wars arise, only in a much dumber way and in a sekrit code language composed of memes. (Designed, I suspect, to thwart parents who snoop on their kids' computers.) I suppose if I'd been a braindead wunderkind with no sense of humor I'd have called FOX news about being slapped around at ARK and called Kibo a "domestic terrorist". But seriously, why is it worth the emotional investment to get mad because someone said something bad about you online?

It's amusing to watch the results when someone manages to piss off chans (etc) enough for them to overcome their apathy and lack of organisation, but you get the impression quite a few take the ZOMG ANON IS LEGION stuff semi-seriously instead of just "doing it for the lulz." I generally don't get involved in such activities, although I might possibly have assisted the DDoS campaign against Hal Turner.

As has been mentioned. (Editorial comment, probably won't work if this is posted, can't remember how that shit works.)

12chan is passworded because (apparently) it's child model / underage porn central, and has been closed down several times :

4chan /s/ is OK, but if you frequently browse The Board Which May Not Be Talked About then be aware that it's really only a matter of time till you see (mercifully thumbnailed) CP, one of the few ways of trolling the mods on a board with almost no rules.

7chan had a /jb/ (jailbait) board until recently, when the FBI were notified and took it (and several other sites hosted on the same provider) down. It still gets sporadically posted in other boards. Generally such material is fairly harmless and overall it's no worse than other major chans, but some of it is strictly speaking illegal (tits && < 18) under US law.

Anonib isn't intentionally pedo but has had very lax moderation in the past, leading to at least one board I know of having blatant CP on it for weeks and being closed due to FBI. Most of the boards are not publically indexed, hence you have to know the "secret" URL and this creates a climate where people think they can push the boundaries somewhat.

You're not going to get into trouble just for visiting these places, but it's something to be aware of.
