Humour

In honour of this festive occasion: a history of Kuro5hin's injokes, funny pics, and other randomness, presented for you on this 1st of April, 2001.

March, 2000: As you probably know, Rusty developed the Scoop code base over a period of a few weeks before putting the code to live use (and replacing Slash 0.3, which had many, many issues). Not always was that code perfect.

June, 2000: We also had to run the site entirely out of our pockets, as the banner ad setups we tried never quite worked out.

August, 2000: Rusty has been told to "circle back" and check on code at his "new" job with Open Sales. Driph explains how it works with a picture.

August, 2000: One late August night, Driph tells Rusty of his meeting with the rare New Hampshire Forest Frog. Rusty creates a picture of the situation, and Driph expands it with Semaphore.

September, 2000: Inoshiro takes some pics for fun, and Driph pokeys the picture.

December, 2000: After people complained about the latest wave of newbies, Driph produced a nice picture of how things worked at K5.

December 2000: Rusty gives his own take on the computer industry.

January, 2001: Driph comments that Inoshiro's new haircut rather looks like James and the Giant Peach, 10 years later.

March, 2001: Fresh back from LWE, Inoshiro's victory V is perverted by a combination of some US company's ad campaign, and a poor Japanese translation.

If you have any humourous K5 moments, please mention them int he comments! Thank you, and have a great day :)

I'm not voting until you (a) implement an Editorial Queue or (b) fix your links.

Fair enough?

Oh yeah, and vote for my story; that way, your story *will* get posted in the future! ;)

I can't tell if Rusty's grown a Taco beard and started dressing like Taco, or if Taco's gained a lot of weight and stopped looking like a pothead slacker. Tough call.

...you'd know that:
  1. It is far beyond my powers to grow a goatee of any kind, and
  2. I wear jeans and a dark gray or dark brown sweater, at virtually all times. So the flannel shirt, as a wardrobe possibility for me, is implausible at best.
Besides, I wasn't at that conference, and Inoshiro and I have still never met in person. So you may draw your own conclusions.

Your CD is excellent by the way.

I was put off by all the annoying "the first rule of fight club is that you don't talk about fight club" quotes that people overquoted.

Well, that, and I don't see movies that are new. I don't want to support the MPAA in any way.

Find someone who stole it, and watch it, then!

It's an *awesome* movie.

With movies like Fight Club out, American Beauty did not deserve Best Picture. Really.

So, you can watch American Beauty but not Fight Club? What's the deal with that? Both were good movies, out around the same time. I can understand the non-supporting of the MPAA, but if you're going to watch one, then you're values are pretty much thrown out the window. It's kinda like a vegetarian who'll eat pork. ;-}

So, what about watching Fight Club on HBO? Still against the grain?

I saw "American Beauty" on pirated satalite (legal in Canada, since the DirectTV people can't sell to us legally). I have no HBO, nor even cable tv, right now. TV and movies just aren't important enough to me to merit any attention.

Anyone who quotes Fight Club completely missed the point of it, as I found out when I recently finally got around to seeing it.

FWIW, the whole "fight club" thing actually has very little to do with most of the movie.

Also, if you rent the movie, the MPAA doesn't see a dime from it.

Fight Club, is it just a fad? (5.00 / 1) (#48)
by ncrptnc on Tue Apr 03, 2001 at 10:41:37 PM EST

Before it was a movie, Fight Club was a fantastic book by Chuck P. He is obviously somehow linked to Chuck D. I usually don't like when people preach, "Read the book, it's better than the movie." In this case though I will readily make an exception because Fight Club the book is one of the most fantastic reading experiences I have ever enjoyed.

Regardless of whether you have seen the movie already, read the book. This isn't just for Inoshiro (ed note: btw inoshiro youre a secretly my hero). Ok well this post has gone on long enough. Just remember that sexual harassment doesn't just happen to women.

Is it me or taco is stuck in the eighties? Man, the first time I saw him I though he didn't had any clothes left. But this picture is a confirmation. If he's so rich than why can't he hire a stylist? Even a poor student like me can dress better than him. Even, poor-ass stonned-drunk french-canadian college student(like me) avoid squareds patterns shirts(sorry, english is not my first language). This is just pathetic. Man, this guy is an icon for ./ trolls and geeks in the world why can he dress normally so his followers can break the stereotype of bad-dressed geeks. And Taco has a girlfriend? Sheeet, and she doesn't even dress him. She must be blind or stuck in the eighties.

I'm outta here, i'm going to watch Saturday night fever and listen to bananorama(sp?)

Yep, that's me, working my tail off in the background to bring all of you the Kuro5hin you've come to know and enjoy while Inoshiro succumbs to stardom and embarks on an alcoholic bender the depths of which no man should speak of, sitting unkept and unwashed at his desk, yelling obscenities at the screen while he pulls back yet another taste from the bottle, always the bottle.

Oh, and Rusty, strolling about his penthouse, his ungainly fingernails spiraling out from his smooth and callous-free hands, wearing kleenex boxes on his feet and muttering about "those damn Wired reporters calling me again and how many interviews can a man do in one day for crying out loud" before becoming transfixed on some esoteric bit of something or other, his face abruptly filled with the glee of a child.

It's sad, really, but was it not expected?

Fear not, noble reader, for Hurstdog and I, humble servents to the cause, shall do our best to keep this proud ship Kuro5hin afloat!

And lest you worry, I present to you a gift. Download your very own official Kuro5hin Black and White creature tattoo here. (warning, it has not been tested, but then again, what around here has?)

I got bored and made almost the same thing. (more boredom). I figure there're enough people (according to #k5 and the diaries) on k5 that are playing/hopelessly addicted to black and white that a B&W clan (or as some might say "cabal") would be very easy to gather members for. And the default tatoos are lame. And i'm not addicted. I can stop at any time.

DSL and CM access isn't always available, and many times, you can't get a static IP. However, there are many good (read: cheap) hosting companies out there. Check out Host Investigator, but do it at some other time, as they seem to be down at the moment.

Note: Host Investigator is not a hosting company, but rather an independent web site that rates hosting companies.
