The 2008 Nobel Prize in Chemistry was awarded to Osamu Shimomura, Martin Chalfie and Roger Y. Tsien for their work on green fluorescent protein or GFP. Douglas Prasher actually first cloned the gene for GFP and suggested its use as a biological tracer. Martin Chalfie stated, "(Douglas Prasher's) work was critical and essential for the work we did in our lab. They could've easily given the prize to Douglas and the other two and left me out."  ...

When the Nobel was awarded in 2008, Dr. Prasher was working as a courtesy shuttle bus driver in Huntsville Alabama.

The only thing worse than having a job (1.57 / 7) (#1)
by donnalee on Mon Mar 07, 2011 at 10:02:47 PM EST

is getting a Nobel prize. Bunch of rich assholes who can't do anything original themselves so they appoint themselves arbiters of others' contributions. And inevitably get it wrong. Listen to Jean-Paul Sartre, who refused a Nobel Prize: "I have always declined official honors. In 1945, after the war, when I was offered the Legion of Honor, I refused it"; or Feynman: "I don't see that it makes any point that someone in the Swedish Academy decides that this work is noble enough to receive a prize".

well then, you must think highly of winning Ig Nobel prize ?  I wonder who nominate those candidates. Why not campaign for Kurons to get one of those?

Existential fallacy (3.00 / 2) (#5)
by Harry B Otch on Tue Mar 08, 2011 at 12:04:49 PM EST

Nobel / 'noble'.  You'd think a fucking Nobel Prize winnar would be smart enough to know that.

Also, the existential fallacy has nothing to do with Existentialism.  I'M TALKING TO YOU, JEAN-PAUL SARTRE.

Sorry... I meant "your silly hobbit without a Nobel Prize." Okay, I admit I didn't read the story before commenting. I even voted it +1, FP without reading it. Why? Because someone put my roll of toilet paper on its roller upside-down again, that's why. So sue me.

You finally got one of your patented non-story stories voted up--I guess persistence really is everything.

In that spirit, I hope that grace and maturity will win the day, and you'll see me as having been a worthy adversary in voting down everything you've ever attempted to post here, and realize that it's nothing personal.  And now that you've made the big time, I promise to start sucking up to you like the sniveling little sycophant that I am.

I would go anal with sye (none / 1) (#23)
by blackbart on Sat Mar 12, 2011 at 08:55:27 AM EST

obviously I'm assuming sye is a female but I'd like to be on record here that I'd like to have anal sex with sye.

Now sure, I'm usually into physical attraction and normally I'd just like the usual sex act and all and I think the reason here that I'm instinctively driven to propose anal sex with sye has to do with the attractiveness of her typing. I've tried to vote everything of hers up, and I think she's witty, I like the artsy fartsy nature of her linked web pages (whether they're hers or not I don't care, she links them I like them) and I just want to experience the sort of intimacy with her that only anal sex can offer.

Sye, I've been an admirer of yours for quite some time now, and I really feel compelled to offer you up some rectum rubbing love because regular sex is just not going to be sufficiently indicative of how deeply my feelings for you have become. I don't care how you look, I can just tell that you're my kind of woman, simulated or otherwise.

So I'm right here right now proposing anal sex with you. Your place or mine, your butt or mine, it doesn't matter, feel free to propose a suitable and authoritative method of opening up a secure method of communication so to speak so that my dreams can come true with you.

Hope to hear from you soon!
