So, you're tired of letting the Bush administration run the "War on Terrorism." You've got the low-down on how to end this thing, and end it fast, but you've got the feeling that no one is listening?

Well, think again, mister.

That's right, our government is seeking advice from us, the general populace.

All you need to do is come up with a solution that can be implemented in 12-18 months. Submit a 1 page description, and if your project sounds promising, you will be asked for a longer write up.

Will this bring the crackpots out of the woodwork? Sure. Will it work? You never know.

Government Requests For Proposals (4.75 / 4) (#6)
by sigwinch on Thu Oct 25, 2001 at 07:02:35 PM EST

For what it's worth, TSWG (the Technical Support Working Group) was regularly asking for these sorts of proposals long before 9-11. There may be a bit more concentration on guerrilla warfare now, and they may have shaken more funding out of the DoD money tree, but this isn't a major change for them. (Compare TSWG with the FAA. TSWG is asking for constructive technological solutions, FAA is taking away tweezers with machine guns. One guess as to which organization got caught with its pants down.)

Also, these contracts aren't terribly difficult to win for a small company with a good idea and the ability to deliver. In fact, some of my colleagues are working on a TSWG R&D contract right now. If you're in the US and in need of funding, look through the TSWG RFPs. Other government agencies have lots of RFPs too.

I don't want the world, I just want your half.

I'd rather read more details about Hedy Lamarr than telling the president how to do his job. Aren't his four years up yet? With hindsight 20/20, I wonder if the Republican Party isn't regretting being a little kinder to John McCain in the primaries. I would have voted for him, even if he was a Republican...

No president in most of our lifetimes has had approval ratings as high as Dubya. I imagine the GOP is thrilled they chose him, because unless something goes horribly wrong, he'll have his eight years, and he might even make Cheney into a viable candidate, presuming the latter's health doesn't deteriorate much further til then. And believe me you, there's nothing Republicans love more than Dick Cheney!

Personally, I don't care; I'll keep voting for people who will keep not winning, and whichever of the Republicrats wins will be just like the one that lost anyway, and maybe eventually more people will see things my way, and someone else will get elected.

They clearly want no suggestion on how to combat terrorism! They're just interested in killing terrorists, there's quite a big difference.

Uh, they're clearly not asking for John Q. Citizen to submit his idea -- they want proposals from industry. You know, like 'Stopping knife-wielding terrorists with billion-dollar joint psychic warfare satellite smart missile defense cyberwar -- how it can work!' The USAF has not lost a single aircraft and has carried its mission out with impunity -- but they still need more new fighters! People -- the Pentagon is about taking money from the public and giving it to the high-tech industries in the name of National x Defense.

In conclusion, the Powerpuff Girls are a reactionary, pseudo-feminist enterprise.

I don't see where you got that. (none / 0) (#16)

Uh, they're clearly not asking for John Q. Citizen to submit his idea

Actually, it's pretty ambiguous as to what they're asking for. Maybe they are only asking for ideas from 'the industry,' but if they are, it's anything but 'clear.'
