Crimean-Congo Hemorhaggic Fever in Iran, Pakistan

One issue that has received relatively little attention in the Western press but is being discussed actively in the sources of mass information in central and southern Asia is the danger of a serious Crimean-Congo Haemorrhagic Fever (CCHF) outbreak appearing as a result of heavy migration of Afghan refugees along the borders of Iran, Pakistan, and other countries. This, of course, should not eclipse the importance of other, more "common" disease that occurs in refugee camps and has far more pandemic implications, but CCHF is definitely worthy of attention nonetheless.

Crimean-Congo Haemorrhagic Fever is a disease commonly associated with the Ebola-like genre of fatal illnesses. It is a viral disease that is commonly passed to humans through ticks living on livestock, and livestock is probably the single most essential commodity in the Afghan agricultural sector. There is fear among officials that run various refugee camps on the Iranian border with Afghanistan, as well as in Pakistan, that the migration of refugees, who are likely to bring their livestock with them, can cause serious problems in regard to CCHF. CCHF has already made its appearance in that general area in a fashion that merits serious epidemiological concern.

General information on CCHF is available from the website of the World Health Organisation.

Several articles have have appeared that address the general problem of disease epidemics. However, the one that caught my attention concerned CCHF and was in the newspaper "Iran Times", which is an international newspaper published partly in the English language. However, I am unable to find its website - help invited.
