Kuro5hin.org

The K5 user search engine mentioned in a previous article has finally been updated and now includes posts from the most recent "Who Are You?" article.

The URL is still http://www.25hoursaday.com/K5users.html. If some posts do not show up but are in the article it is probably for one of the following reasons.
  1. The post was made after the last time I retrieved posts from the that article.

  2. The user made multiple posts to the same article - I pick the oldest top level post made by a user but something tells me I should pick the most recent instead.

  3. The user made multiple posts to different articles - I pick the post from the most recent article.
If anyone would like to mirror this effort I can offer all the code and XML files containing the articles if needed.

It'd be cool if.. (5.00 / 1) (#1)

If you could make it find a person's comments in all 3 sources instead of just the most recent contribution.

Nice idea.

OK... (3.60 / 5) (#2)
by Carnage4Life on Fri Aug 24, 2001 at 11:34:53 AM EST

That shouldn't be too hard to do, I only did it this way to save space in the DB but I have over 1GB of free space so I guess I can go ahead and make that change when I get back from class.

Suggestion (5.00 / 1) (#3)

It would be easier to use of searches ignored case.

Scoop is case-sensitive (3.75 / 4) (#4)
by Carnage4Life on Fri Aug 24, 2001 at 11:44:03 AM EST

I seem to remember that the reason I did this was because at one time Scoop ignored case and there could theoretically be two users with the same nick only differentiated by case. Or at least that's what I thought, I should contact rusty, hurst or Inoshiro about this to find out if it's still the case. If it isn't the case then I'll work on a case-insensitive version of the search.

case (none / 0) (#7)
by ucblockhead on Fri Aug 24, 2001 at 12:09:41 PM EST

The scoop search gives you a list for multiple matches. More of a pain to do, I know...

I just mention it because the first thing I tried was "carnage4life", and I got nothing. Then I tried "Rusty", and got nothing.

Now what's really odd is that scoop claims that there are four "rusty" users. An old bug, from what I can tell.

The site is not responding as of now.
Leftism is the ideology of resentment. It is is the ideology of the frustrated will to power. It matters not how much or how little power the Leftist has at the moment. The point is, he wants more, and he can't get it.
