Just after retiring from drawing the daily strip, and just one day before the final Sunday farewell appeared in newspapers, "Peanuts" creator Charles M. Shulz succumbed to colon cancer Saturday night, reports this story on the AP wire.

Some of you young'uns out there may not have ever seen the early "Peanuts" strips. If not, I highly recommed you find some of the old books, which reveal Shulz's real talents in a way that the last few years of the daily strip have not. What he said with the "Peanuts" gang in the 50's and 60's still rings just as true today. He will be missed.
