BSOD

Heres an amusing link displaying the legendary bsod.

[editor's note, by rusty] Wow, old article makes good. This has been going back and forth in the story mod queue for a long time now (note the 39 commented votes!), and it looks like enough people finally liked it to get it to the front page. To respond to the comments I'm sure are coming: Yes, there will be a "Quickies" section soon, for things like this. Yes, there will be an option to not post your moderation comment with the story. Yes, M$-bashing is old. But it's a funny picture, so take it for what it's worth.

My local cable company used (past tense, sob sob) an Amiga for its channel listings, once upon a time -- and I only *once* caught it in a crash. But for that moment that it *was* crashed ... every time I flipped past the listings channel I reflexively looked over the remote, muttering "All right, which button is the 'left' button ... D'OH!"

I for one, don't really want to see "one liners" like this in the form of a story. It would be really cool if there was a quickie category. You could make a bunch of quickies available for moderation once some sort of critical mass of submitted quickies was reached.

You would probably want some sort of line item veto for the quickies, so you could pick the best from the pool. I could see it getting very complicated very quickly.

Besides, now that I've followed the link, why post it? ;)

by rusty on Wed Feb 23, 2000 at 10:29:59 PM EST

Here's my thoughts for quickies-- When you submit a story, you can tag it a quickie. The quickie threshold will be separate from the regular article threshold (probably lower). When a quickie crosses the threshold, it disappears into a secret quickie-hole, and when there are X (also configurable) of them approved, they'll all come out together in a jammin quickie love-fest, automagically sewn together as one lumpish story.

Sound good?

I had just gotten back from the DMV when I wrote that comment. Rereading it, I have no idea what state my brain was in at that moment. I do like the phrase "secret quickie-hole" though. It reminds me of the Keebler elves, and yet manages to sound vaguely pornographic at the same time. That one's a keeper.

Watch the submissions queue for my DMV experiences. Wow was that bad.
