Beautiful Lights

I just couldn't let this on slip past. There was a strong solar eruption in our direction Thursday, February 17th. Solar eruptions are the cause of the auroras, and because the eruption was focused toward Earth, by Saturday night, February 19th, the auroras might be visible, not only in Canada, but also most of the Northern US. Which is cool, because I live in MN, and have never seen the aurora before.

Hmm, I didn't know this, and I'm glad of the chance to keep an eye out. Presumably, if the lights are visible from the US, we might be able to see them in N. Europe too, right? Not worth an article, though. I mean, what's there to say? "Wow, man, this shit is really something! The sky is all colours! -- No, you fool, that's the Aurora Borealis!"

Mmm.. aurora. Last weekend here (Saskatoon, SK, Canada) we had a nice show, but if this is as big as they are talking about then it should be quite a bit better than usual. ( Wonder if Hydro-Quebec is worried... )

Not as rare as an eclipse, but prettier to watch. Still, doesn't quite make my cut for posting right now.

Wow. Too bad I live in Las Vegas, probably a bit too South for the viewing. Although I WAS able to watch the anti-missle missles they were launching out of California a few months back...the effect in the sky after the trail spread out was amazing...
