At The Register they have a link that reports of a trial attorney for the Dept. of Justice's Criminal Division that thinks that "the absolute worst people to coordinate Internet security are law enforcement." (emphasis mine)

Very interesting. (Properly speaking, The Register has "an article," or "a page," not "a link" that reports.... Thanks.)

To be fair, the Register may not always be the most factual place, but they do raise a lot of valid points. This is one of them. You may not agree with their muckraking tactics, but what they have to say is often on-target IMO. $0.02

As to the topic of the post, I agree that giving the FBI and other law-enforcement groups as they exist now the kind of powers that they want would be a big mistake--opening up the possibility of a *real* Big Brother state...government regulation is needed to check the worst abuses, but I don't want them checking _everything_ without due process etc. etc. etc.

This is a ridiculous story, it's something dreamed together by a sensationalist scaremonger. The Register is the web's answer to tabloids, no facts just waco stuff. Nuff said.

I find the Register refreshing. You gotta admit, it's a real hoot seeing
a newspaper refer to Microsoft as "The Great Satan of Software". I want
to see less pretense at objectivity, less hiding any attempt at humor,
more down to earth and less B.S. in the non-Internet media.
