Dungeons and Dragons and SATAN!!!

Those Catholics sure can be funny. I stumbled across a page today explaining how role playing games are the Devil's tool. It goes into great detail explaining how games like Dungeons & Dragons can turn your kid into... well, I'll let them tell you:

The players of this game may fall into the sins of cultists black magic, ritual sacrifice, homosexuality, bisexuality, transvetitism, necrophilia, sadism, masochism, child pornography, fetishism, atheism, agnosticism, oral sex, bestiality, adultery, coprophilia, voyeurism, demonology, necromancy, fascism, neo-nazism, occultism, pagan religions, arson, satanism, witchcraft, incest, and sodomy.
Well, that about covers it, I think. If you're lucky, you too could be the proud parent of a necronarcopedopyrobestialiholic! That's someone who's addicted to falling asleep uncontrollably while having sex with an underage dead animal which is on fire, by the way. Read this page. You will not be disappointed.

If you clicked on "read more," you deserve to be told that the site linked above is, in fact, a joke. But it's funnier if you don't know that beforehand. Here is the explanation. It certainly fooled me. :-)

Oddly enough, they left out "Communist". I wonder what could have compelled them to forget? Could it be... SATAN?!!

That page was very funny. I've already pointed several friends to it -- but haven't mentioned it was a joke. It will be interesting to see their reactions.

The author of the page expresses amazement that readers take it seriously. However, he must have never read the literature of some very serious conservative christian organizations such as the Institute for Creation Research or the Flat Earth Society[1], or even Jack Chick Comics[2]. His page, put next to those works, really doesn't seem all that extreme.

[1] I know of no internet presence for the FES. The one at www.flat-earth.org is a joke.

You totally misunderstood the article. First of tall, they weren't Catholic. I'm Catholic, and have never once heard a priest or another RC criticize D&D as being demonic. We generally know the difference between fantasy games and reality. In fact, the page specifically condemns the RC Church repeatedly. Apparently, we are going to Hell along with the RPGers.

But, more importantly, if you look at a higher level on the webserver, you'll see the page is owned and run by some European fellow who is really into RPGs. He posted this as a joke.

And if you look at a slightly higher level than your comment, you'll notice that not only have other commenters mentioned the joking nature of the site, but that in fact, I myself posted that it was a joke, when the story first went up. I assume you feel kind of silly now, for not having read the rest of the story. Ok, we all make mistakes. At least you didn't totally barbeque me. Then you'd really feel like an ass! ;-)

Seriously, though. The reason I tucked away the admission that it was a joke below the story summary is that I didn't know it was humor the first time I saw it, and I was totally fooled. I figured others should have the same pristine experience. Just goes to show that we go around half-believing nearly everything we hear these days, cause people will say just about anything.

And as that other guy pointed out above, some of the fundy literature out there which is not meant to be funny is much worse than this.

Oh yeah, and a general word of advice: Don't believe everything you see on the web, and don't really believe anything you see here, until it's incontrovertibly proven to you by a team of minty-fresh scientists in white lab coats. I make a lot of stuff up. Count on it.
