The World's Gone Robo-Crazy!

First, there was Aibo. Then, came the cuddly cat that miaows but runs out of battery life fairly quick. Now ... fish. Yes, fish. Now, I'm a great fan of fish, but won't they go rusty or something? [editor's note, by rusty] Cue the rimshot.

Fish!

Fish!

Yay! Got to have Fish! Go Fish!

Erm (clears throat) Sorry, got carried away there. Fish do that to me - even cool robotic ones. I await the robot eel, that would be cool. Electric Eel. Then we could have Robotic Lobsters - imagine trying to eat one of those in a restaurant!

"Knock Knock."

"Who's there?"

"The interrupting Surrealist."

The interrupt--"

"FISH!"

This joke brought to you by two very small quail eggs sitting on top of a pile of gymsocks, in a grain silo.

This story will probably get posted, but I'm personally a little tired of the robo-animal of the week. It doesn't go on here, but it does on Slashdot. And the 3 paragraphs in your post tends to get annoying, heh. Takes a lot of space on the main page. =/

Hey, now these are cool. I've got a plecostomus that I've had for about 15 years now... once he dies(if anyone has any clue how long these fish live, let me know.. I've never found a definate answer.) I've love to get one of these things... $140 is pretty damn cheap, considering what you'd pay for a decent saltwater fish, plus filtration, plus food, etc..

Also, since you wouldnt have to worry about maintaining the water, you could do all kinds of neat things, add dye to the water, play around with it, etc...

I just wonder the particularities.. how often batteries run out, etc...

Well, looking at the picture, I think the fish robot has a solar panel on its
sides.	I couldn't see anything on the Jellyfish though.

Hey you guys, in Bladerunner real pets were cool. People had fakes cause real
stuff was to expensive.

It's kind scary that people are buying these things. Not me though. I'm not
buying any robot pets.

At least not until the technology gets advanced enough for Playboy to start
selling them :-) When that happens (and it probably will), I'll have serious
concerns for our future as a species.

Actually, the pet thing was in the "based on" story "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" I think it was sort of mentioned in the movie, but it wasn't nearly as big a deal. Close enough though, I see your point. ;-)

Well, in Bladerunner the issue of pets was mentioned at least twice... the snake, and what's-her-names owl..

Fish tend to be a display for most people, as opposed to an actual pet.. Mine has reached pet status because I've had him for so damn long.. So robotic fish is an excellent use of the market, I see a lot more people buying them as actual decoration for the house, as opposed to toys..

Yah, I read that and a few other PKD books. I said Bladerunner cause you all
know that it means Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep. I just wanted to save
myself some typing. A lot of good that did me...serves me right for being
lazy.

Sorta reminds me of the snake robots you can see at, well, www.snakerobots.com. Robots, that are really snakey. Cool. (BTW, a Google search for "snake robots" turns up some great links :)

I dunno, the intelligence could be astounding, it could be lame.

I love computers, but, I like living breathing dog's & stuff too.
Lets put it this way, I would feel no guilt putting this sucker in a box over
the summer, a real dog, yeah.
