Sharp and Sony are developing a 2GB disk that is a mere 50.8mm in diameter, for use in portable devices such as digital cameras and palmtops etc. Sharp hopes to have devices on the market by the end of this year. Iomega must be worrying about their Clik! disks now - the new disks will have 50 times more capacity and will have vast marketing power behind them.

Not meaning to be the "Mr ZDNet" of the place :-) And is that Gbyte or GBit (surely the former, otherwise why bother?)?

These would make an excellent addition to my laptop, I'm getting cramped with my 2 GB HD, and it's a pain in the butt to upgrade. At 5cm it would be small enough to be an internal drive, and lots of capacity. However, interchangiblity and price are going to be key.

While nice in a laptop i think these have alot more potential in information appliances(what a terrible name). having this in a digital camera would be mondo cool as well. being able to take photograph quality pictures would rock.
