Thanks to the Electronic Frontier Foundation, the last remaining defendant in the NY DeCSS case, 2600 Magazine, now has world renowned attorney Martin Garbus of Frankfurt, Garbus, Klein, and Selz defending them. (Read 2600's News Release.)

From the March 24th, 2000 installment of 2600 News:
Martin Garbus, who will be the key lawyer on our side, has defended the likes of Lenny Bruce, Spike Lee, Samuel Beckett, Andrei Sakharov, and Vaclav Havel and is the author of "Tough Talk," published in 1998.

grrr I'm getting real tired of the MPAA! Why can't we have a free DVD-player for Linux and FreeBSD?

Well, I'd like to sympathize with that. But if you don't understand, then how can you act?

Whoops, sorry, gotta stop quoting Ani DiFranco tunes.

Well, hopefully he won't dork it up like was done in the preliminaries. From what I recall the EFF lawyers let the DVD CCA's laywers get away with saying that CSS was a copy protection scheme and not correcting them by saying that it is an ACCESS CONTROL scheme. Crucial difference.
