Intelligent April Fools.

Have you looked at Slashdot today? .. yeah, I thought so too. Contrast that to Google. Much better, right? The problem is, of course, some people taking a joke too far, while others come up with a unique, new form of joke, and do not overdo it. Any joke repeated more than twice has a negative humour value. I'd love to see other good examples of humour (ala the Google one) posted to this forum. Share the hilarity ;-)

I have yet to see anything as origional and believable as last years Userfriendly and Segfault gag. They lured us all in for a couple weeks and made us all feel like fools.

In hindsight, I wish raph and I had set up the lawsuit gag a little more thoroughly (or, umm, at all) before the fact. As it was, we didn't collaborate on it at all. I saw his post here and ran with the idea, figuring hell, if they were suing him, they'd *certainly* be suing me. It would have been great to do a segfault/UF thing, and plant rumors beforehand. :-)

Oh well. I'll start thinking about next year.

A good one would of been to inpliment a Slashdot look and feel to the site or at least the front page. Including the colour scheme, icons and slashboxes. Or even better although a lot of work to announce that due to the release of Slashcode v1.0 being more stable and superior (yeah right) to Scoop you were giving up it's development and moving over to a Slash backend. All while redirecting the page to a box running Slash for the day.

I guess there's always next year.

Subtly is sometimes an important part of the humour ;-) I found it last night when it "detected" German thoughts, and translated them for me (better than Babelfish when my search hit some German sites).

Indeed. As you can see from some of my other antics on this site, April Fool's is one of my favorite holidays. It serves as an essential reality check for the kinds of things you should believe. l33t.freshmeat.net was fun too, but I haven't come across too many other really fun posts. Let's see them here!

Well, a couple of other stories submitted for today were april fools jokes of that sort. For example, someone (most likely raph) set up their own frameset to make it look like PR NewsWire was carrying a very biting story about Slashdot (the andover vs. avogato story). I thought that was pretty good. And, of course, Salon filled up their entire newsmagazine today with stories about sex, boobs, and Linux.

I'm not surprised at the shittiness of Slashdot today. Last year it was pretty bad, and I figured it'd have gotten even worse this year. None of the jokes are even FUNNY. And why do they merit huge-ass discussions? I'm afraid to even look at any of them, for fear of seeing lots of people saying that it isn't funny, or having to have april fool's explained to them, or whatever (like what happened last year).

I just did not find it funny the way /each/ story was translated to a non-english language. If you're going to attack me, have the intelligence to find a true flaw.

slashdot has taken things way too far today. It's getting old AND ruining the credibility of the few legitimate stories.

Personally, I thought the slashdot gag was hilarious.
I enjoyed watching all the /. addicts whine and plead 'Can we please have some
news now? Please!'

Those of you who got sick of it probably reload /. too many times in the same
day.

(Just for the sake of honesty, I should point out that April 1 just happened to
fall on one of my no-news days, so I did not see any of the jokes until April
2.)

Bah! Unfortunately the weather was beautiful yesterday and I was forced to play outside, so I missed pretty much all the front-page gags. Are any of them still up and/or archived?

Blasted beautiful spring weather...
