Ego-surfing. We've all done it. Well, I've been using the name kuro5hin online for a while now, and I was trolling around today to see what turned up on the search engines.

Imagine my surprise when the number one hit for "kuro5hin" at FAST Search was a German translation of a bit of satire I'd written in a Slashdot forum a while back. "AMIGA kündigt Amiga Cloud 1.0 an" was apparently translated for Das StarMag by Rüdiger Engel. Hasslehoff-like, I must be huge in Germany, because the same post shows up untranslated at AmigaClub.de. The original is still archived on slashdot.

But what I really got a kick out of, was the opportunity to run the German translation back through Babelfish and see how it stacked up with the original. Find them side-by-side below.

The Original English English, Translated to German, Then Back to English
Leveraging over five years of Amiga's revolutionary Vapor-Tech development, Amiga Inc. announced their first product under the direction of Gateway, Amiga Cloud 1.0. Amiga Inc. will collect large amounts of their previously released VaporWare and place them in the Earth's lower atmosphere, initially over large cities, but later we hope to deploy them nationwide, end even worldwide. In order to give more than five year development of hot air with Amiga new lift, Amiga Inc. their first product under the guidance of gateway announced, to Amiga Cloud 1.0. Amiga Inc. will in-collect and in the lower layers of the terrestrial atmosphere will place large quantities of its beforehand published hot air, first over large cities, but we hope later to be able to distribute her country-wide and finally world-wide.
We at Amiga believe that despite the fact, nay, even because of the fact that we haven't released a product since 1995, we are perfectly positioned to become a market leader in the revolutinary new technology. We with Amiga believe that we despite the fact, rather because of the fact that we published no more product since 1995, in which ideal position is a market leader with this revolutionary technique to become.
